about Megan
Megan Avery is the founder and owner of M Avery
Designs.
She is the Author of the recently release
book "Bag
Bazaar, 25 Stylish Bags to Make in an afternoon" published by Potter Craft,
a division of Random House.
Her work has been featured in Blueprint, Modern
Bride, InStyle and NBC's, The Today Show.
Megan grew up in the Adirondacks of New York
State in a little town called Star Lake, where
the deer population out numbered the people.
She moved to NJ after graduating from Ithaca
College in 1998, where she majored in Television
and Radio.
With very little sewing and design experience,
Megan started making bags about 7 years ago because
she didn't have the money to drop hundreds of
dollars, or more, on designer bags. So often,
she would see bags she loved and find herself
saying "I could make that so easily!"
After
designing, creating and selling my line of handmade
handbags and totes for three years, she was overwhelmed
by the interest so many people had in learning
how to make bags for themselves. That's when
she opened the M Avery Design Studio and started
teaching "Make your
Own Handbag" Workshops
and sewing classes to guests who have little
or no sewing experience. Each month, Avery features
many two-hour beginning sewing workshops,
in addition to a five week sewing course she
calls "Fashion
Lab Boot Camp". She also started a Fashion
Lab Summer Camp and after
school program for
kids ages 9 & up
to learn sewing and accessory design.
